FAQs
-
All our private music lessons are $137.00/month.
We also offer shared lessons for $110.00/month.
Lessons are held weekly for 30 minutes.
Please note that students are responsible for purchasing materials; this is not included in your tuition. Your teacher will advise which program and materials are right for you!
-
The initial deposit covers your final month of lessons up front so that whenever you are ready to discontinue, your final month of lessons is already covered! We collect this after your FREE intro session and prior to you beginning regular weekly lessons. This helps to secure your spot in our studio.
-
Our annual rate for music lessons has been equally divided it over 12 months. That is why your invoice remains the same regardless of whether there are 3, 4, or 5 actual lessons scheduled for the month. All “off-weeks” have already been accounted for in your annual tuition.
We also include all recital fees in with our regular tuition so there are no extra charges for these!

Since you are paying to secure a specific time on a specific day with your teacher, we are unfortunately unable to offer make ups or credits for missed lessons for any reason.
Well, that is our official policy anyway. The reality is - we do TRY to squeeze make up lessons any time we can! But it is very important to understand that we simply cannot guarantee a make up every single time (unless you are an incredibly lucky person!)
-
We run a year round studio and continue lessons all throughout the summer! (Plus some very fun camps and workshops!)
Your commitment is month-to-month so you are welcome to take a break anytime you please - many families choose to break for the summer or other months for travelling purposes. However, please note that since you are paying to secure a specific time on a specific day we are not able to hold a lesson slot without payment. You will risk losing your spot during your break. When you are ready to start up again, email us or check out our online booking to see what is available.
If you would like to guarantee that your same time slot is available with your teacher when you return, you will need to continue making monthly payments during the summer or whenever your break may be.

We accept etransfer to info@stouffvillemusicroom.ca, cash, or cheque for lessons. We are working on integrating credit card payment options - stay tuned!

I love this question.
We offer group music programs for children as young as 3 months old and our oldest student to date is 70 years old!
We typically recommend that kids start private instrument lessons around age 6 so that they have the attention span and finger dexterity to thrive during lessons. Both piano and ukulele are excellent starter instruments.
For children under 6, you may want to consider our preschool music groups like “Kids Make Music” which acts as a stepping stool leading up to more formal music lessons.

When choosing a piano or keyboard, budget is often an important factor. Almost all acoustic pianos have 88 keys and have all of the preferred benefits and features. A local piano technician or piano tuner can provide valuable advice when considering purchasing a second-hand instrument.
When choosing an electronic keyboard there are certain features to look for. The more features, the higher the cost. Use the following guidelines (in order of importance):
minimum of 61 regular-sized keys
if affordable, an 88-key digital piano or keyboard would be ideal
a sustain pedal (not a sustain button)
touch sensitive keys
weighted keys
Obviously there are numerous other features, many of which come as standard on many modern instruments. These, while potentially interesting and/or beneficial, are not a necessary part of a successful piano experience.

If you're looking to purchase a guitar, start by checking out Kijiji or Facebook Marketplace, as there are often quality instruments available for sale. Another option is to consider the brand Jay Turser, which comes highly recommended by our guitar teachers.
For younger students, a half-size or three-quarter-size guitar is a great place to start. These are typically priced around $130 at most retailers.
Unfortunately, we would advise against purchasing guitars from Amazon, as we’ve heard more negative experiences with guitars from there than any other source. Many of the plastic-bodied guitars available online are not designed for serious use—they’re more like toys and often lack the durability or quality needed for proper playability.
Reliable guitar brands are Fender, Yamaha, Gibson, and Tayor.
